Christian von Götz Opernregisseur

Having recently staged successful productions at the Komische Oper Berlin and Oper Leipzig, Christian von Götz is currently preparing for his debut at the Royal Danish Opera House in Copenhagen.

 He studied directing and opera directing at the “Hochschule für Musik und Theater“ in Vienna and the Hochschule für Musik „Hanns Eisler“ in Berlin.

He staged productions at Oper Köln, Hamburgische Staatsoper, Komische Oper Berlin, Oper Leipzig, Gärtnerplatztheater München, the opera houses in Lisbon and Odessa as well as at the Edinburgh International Festival, amongst others.

His productions were repeatedly nominated as the seasons’s “Best production” in polls by the journal Opernwelt.

In addition, he is one of the founding members of the ensemble MUSIKDEBATTE KÖLN, which presents contemporary cross-cultural issues on the opera stage. In 2014 Christian von Götz and Musikdebatte Köln were nominated for their world premiere of „Djaizat al Salam“ as “Young Artists of the Year” in the critics’ poll by the journal Opernwelt.

Er worked with singers Camilla Nylund, Samuel Youn, Dalia Schaechter, Ashley Holland, Benjamin Bruns, Mark Stone, Solveig Kringelborn or Ursula Hesse von den Steinen.

The DVD with his production of BLUTHOCHZEIT, published by WERGO, was critically acclaimed in the press and was „DVD of the Month “ (Nov/13) in „Die deutsche Bühne“.

In the upcoming season Christian von Götz will stage, among other things, the opera rarity “Lulu” by Friedrich Kuhlau at the Royal Danish Opera House Copenhagen.
